Unscramble the School Words

Six scrambled words, each next to a picture of what it spells: book, desk, ruler, school, pencil and eraser. The picture is the clue, so a child who cannot crack the letters yet can still work it out from the image and then check the spelling against it.

Anagrams like these are good spelling practice precisely because the answer is already known. The work is in matching letters to sounds and getting the order right, rather than guessing the word. The bonus challenge asks for one more school word of the child’s own, which is where it turns into a conversation about the classroom.
